“Fuck You!”Some time back, I was delving into some strange and esoteric connections, and encountered the remarkable synchronization between The Wizard of OZ and Pink Floyd’s Prog-Rock masterpiece, Dark Side of the Moon.
Having explored the symbolism of the prism on the album cover, it seemed logical to me that there ought to be a connection to Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke’s symbolism-laden cinematic spectacle, 2001 A Space Odyssey.
In Clarke’s original short story, the famous monolith is a pyramid. Furthermore it was intended in the movie to be a transparent prism (technical issues resulted in the prop simply being painted black!). Plus of course the second monolith is discovered beneath the lunar surface.
Thus the music and movie screamed out at a potential connection.
To my delight, I discovered that a creative genius had indeed pre-empted my thoughts and fused Pink Floyd’s music with Kubrick’s visuals to produce 2001: The Dark Side Of The Echoes. It was a stunning work that breathed new life into both the movie and the music, but fell foul of YouTube’s censorship monster, despite being technically a new creation.
“We can’t have you breaking rules, David…”
Now, beautifully timed to coincide with the discovery of the Utah Monolith, SYXTEMS has released a spectacular new remaster.
Coincidence or synchronicity?
Before you ask; I can confirm that SYXTEMS didn’t have anything to do with the Utah monolith, but he wishes he had thought of it!
